The following facts are representative of the tradition and practice of American Baptists. American Baptists celebrate the fact that belief in Jesus Christ assures salvation and eternal fellowship with a loving God. The events of the first Easter week are the cornerstones of our faith: Holy Scripture always has been for American Baptists the authoritative and trustworthy guide for knowing and serving the God who is revealed as Creator, Savior and Advocate. Baptist roots date back four centuries to a people seeking the opportunity to worship God as individual members of freely organized and freely functioning local churches. Baptists always have maintained the need for autonomous congregations, responsible for articulating their own doctrine, style of worship and mission. American Baptists hold that all who truly seek God are both competent and called to develop in that relationship. American Baptists also celebrate the special gifts of all believers, testifying that God can use each of us in ministry.

The American Baptist denomination allows for abortion, is against capital punishment, has those who accept homosexuality in their midst, and does not believe in the salvation that is in Christ Jesus. Abortion In regards to abortion, the American Baptists write, We acknowledge the diversity of deeply held convictions within our fellowship even as we seek to interpret the Scriptures under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Many American Baptists believe that, biblically, human life begins at conception, that abortion is immoral and a destruction of a human being created in God’s image Job Many others believe that while abortion is a regrettable reality, it can be a morally acceptable action and they choose to act on the biblical principles of compassion and justice John 8: Many gradations of opinion between these basic positions have been expressed within our fellowship.
We also recognize that we are divided as to the proper witness of the church to the state regarding abortion. Many of our membership seek legal safeguards to protect unborn life. Many others advocate for and support family planning legislation, including legalized abortion as in the best interest of women in particular and society in general. Again, we have many points of view between these two positions. Consequently, we acknowledge the freedom of each individual to advocate for a public policy on abortion that reflects his or her beliefs.

Simply put, we are a non-denominational, New Testament church. Members of the Church of Christ: Seek to duplicate the non-denominational church of the first century. Take the Bible as our supreme guide. Reject doctrines and practices that were introduced after the close of the New Testament. Seek to be Christians only. Edit Module Let Us Prey: Big Trouble at First Baptist Church A string of assaults and sexual crimes committed by pastors across the country have one thing in common: The perpetrators have ties to the megachurch in Hammond, Indiana. By Bryan Smith Published Dec. Or would have, had Schaap not habitually railed against the evils of rock music. As with most of his sermons at the northwest Indiana megachurch—the 14th largest in the country and the biggest Independent Baptist house of worship in the nation—the message struck as bluntly as a pounded nail: When you do submit, be prepared to endure excruciating pain.
God will hold a metaphorical knife to your throat as Schaap would illustrate by holding a steel blade against a twig the way an assailant might press on a jugular. The effect was powerful, and it inevitably produced the desired result: He lifted a stick in his left hand and a silver cloth in his right. He moved the bottom of the stick near his groin and angled it away from himself.
Head thrown back, eyes squeezed shut, mouth gaping, he began rubbing the shaft rapidly with the cloth, up and down, up and down.

Is there hope for a Baptist and Church of Christ relationship
The Bible versus the “Church of Christ” This article is a slightly condensed version of a small booklet that I wrote a few years ago. It’s purpose is to expose the false teachings of the so-called “Church of Christ. What is the Church? The Church of Christ people fail to realize that the “true church” is a spiritual organism, NOT a physical organization.
He is referring to his particular group of people who believe and practice the same things, NOT a spiritual body of born-again believers. This can be very confusing for an unsaved reader who knows not what it means to be born-again spiritually into the spiritual body of Christ Jn.

John the Baptist was a contemporary of Christ who was known for evangelization and his baptizing of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was born through the intercession of God to Zachariah and Elizabeth, who was otherwise too old to bear children. According to scriptures, the Angel Gabriel visited Elizabeth and Zachariah to tell them they would have a son and that they should name him John. Zachariah was skeptical and for this he was rendered mute until the time his son was born and named John, in fulfillment of God’s will.
When Elizabeth was pregnant with John, she was visited by Mary, and John leapt in her womb. This revealed to Elizabeth that the child Mary carried was to be the Son of God.
